SMEDAN Mandates

The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) has several mandates aimed at promoting and developing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria.

  • Policy Formulation and Advocacy: we design and execute policies and strategies that create an enabling environment for MSME growth and development, including regulatory reforms.
  • Capacity Building: we provide training, skill development, and capacity-building programs help prepare business owners for growth.
  • Access to Finance: we facilitate, syndicate and implement specialised funding schemes for MSMEs (including low-interest loans and grants).
  • Market Access: we enable MSMEs access local and international markets through market linkages, trade fairs, exhibitions, and other promotional activities.
  • Research and Development: we conduct research and development activities to generate data and information relevant to SME development, which informs policy formulation and program implementation.
  • Entrepreneurship Promotion: we promote entrepreneurship culture and encourage the establishment and growth of MSMEs across various sectors of the economy.
  • Coordination and Collaboration: we coordinate with other government agencies, development partners, and stakeholders involved in SME development to ensure synergy and effective implementation of programs.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: we monitor and evaluate the impact of its programs and interventions on SMEs, to assess effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
